As we all know, steel pipes can be roughly divided into two categories according to the manufacturing process: seamless steel pipes and welded steel pipes. Today, we mainly talk about the classification of welded pipes.
Welded steel pipe can be roughly divided into three categories according to the forming process:
I. Resistance Welded Steel Pipe
Classification and Overview of Welded Steel Pipe
Resistance Welded Steel Pipe
Resistance welded steel pipe, the English name ERW (Electric Resistance Welded Pipe), the type of weld is straight seam. Resistance welding adopts pressure welding method without filling metal. There is no filling other components in the weld. By skin effect and proximity effect of high frequency current, the edge of the plate is instantly heated to the welding temperature, and the forged weld is formed by extrusion roll extrusion.
Resistance welded steel pipe can be divided into two categories: high frequency welded pipe and low frequency welding.
ERW steel pipe is mainly used for transporting vapor and liquid objects such as oil and natural gas. It can meet various requirements of high and low pressure. At present, ERW steel pipe plays an important role in the field of transporting pipelines in the world.
2. Spiral Welded Steel Pipe
Classification and Overview of Welded Steel Pipe
Spiral Welded Steel Pipe
Spiral submerged-arc welding pipe, the English name SSAW (Spiral submerged-arc welding pipe), the type of welding seam is spiral seam. Submerged arc welding is used to weld the inner and outer double layers. Submerged arc welding (including submerged arc surfacing and electroslag surfacing) is an important welding method. It has inherent advantages of stable welding quality, high welding productivity, no arc light and little smoke.
The spiral welded pipe has a large manufacturing caliber, which can reach more than 3000mm. It is more suitable for large caliber pipeline transportation and construction structure.
3. Longitudinal Seam Welded Steel Pipe
Classification and Overview of Welded Steel Pipe
Longitudinal Seam Welded Steel Pipe
Longitudinal Submerged Arc Welded Pipe is the English name of LSAW. The type of weld is straight seam. Similarly, the submerged arc welding method is used to weld the inner and outer double layers. Longitudinal seam steel pipe has a large wall thickness, and its use is similar to spiral welded steel pipe.
Longitudinal welded steel pipe can be divided into two categories according to the different forming process: UOE (Uing and O ing forming pipe) and JCOE (J-ing, C-ing and O-ing pipe). UOE forming method (U forming, O forming, E expanding) and JCOE forming method (steel plate pressing into J type, then pressing into C type and O type, then expanding).
It should be noted that submerged arc welding (SAW) is a kind of electric fusion welding (EFW Electric Fusion Welded Pipe), which combines metals by heating one or more consumable electrodes with the workpiece. The arc melts the metal and filling materials sufficiently without pressure, and the filling metal part of the worker comes from the electrodes.
